Reunification Therapy
Reunification Therapy, sometimes referred to as Reconciliation Therapy, is a court-appointed, therapeutic process designed to support children and parents in safely restoring, strengthening, or repairing parent-child relationships that have been disrupted. This work occurs often when a child is resistant or reluctant to spend time with a parent, often in the context of separation or divorce, high-conflict family transitions, or prolonged breaks in contact.
The primary goal of Reunification Therapy is to help children feel secure, heard, and supported while rebuilding trust and healthy connection with both parents. The process emphasizes the child’s emotional safety, gradual re-engagement at a developmentally appropriate pace, and respect for each family member’s role, history, and needs.
Therapy focuses on:
-
Supporting the child’s emotional wellbeing
-
Building and strengthening healthy parent-child relationships
-
Improving communication and co-parenting skills
-
Reducing conflict to create a safe, stable, and predictable structure
-
Developing shared parenting goals focused on the child’s best interests
-
Providing structure and accountability to support consistency and follow-through
Reunification Therapy is not designed to investigate past allegations or determine custody outcomes. Instead, it is a therapeutic, structured, and child-centered process intended to assist families in moving forward while honoring court orders, promoting cooperation, and fostering resilience.
The focus is on the child’s needs, safety, and long-term wellbeing—helping families transition from conflict toward connection, stability, and healthy family functioning. Ms. Trotter requires a specific court order appointing her before beginning services.
