So You Want to Be the Accidental Court-Involved Therapist™ is a practical continuing education course for mental health professionals who want to recognize when therapy begins shifting into court involvement—and know how to respond ethically, confidently and within their professional role. Most clinicians never plan to become court-involved therapists. A client mentions an upcoming hearing. An attorney requests a letter. A parent asks for documentation. What feels like being helpful can quietly change your role, your documentation and your ethical responsibilities before you realize it. This course teaches you how to recognize that drift early and maintain clear clinical boundaries. Through practical frameworks, realistic case examples and evidence-informed clinical decision-making tools, you'll learn to identify early warning signs, distinguish therapeutic roles, maintain professional neutrality and produce documentation that remains clinically sound and court-aware. The course also explores how system pressures from attorneys, judges, guardians ad litem, CPS and high-conflict families can influence clinical practice while providing practical strategies for maintaining ethical integrity and role clarity. You'll leave with practical tools to recognize role drift, establish appropriate boundaries, respond to common court-related requests, communicate professionally and make confident clinical decisions when legal issues arise. Throughout the course, you'll work through realistic scenarios involving custody disputes, requests for letters, documentation challenges, attorney communication and increasing court involvement. This training is ideal for LMFTs, LPCs, LCSWs, psychologists and other behavioral health professionals who work with children, families, divorce, custody disputes, reunification therapy, parenting coordination or any practice where court involvement may unexpectedly occur. Cancellation Policy
Continuing Education Registration Policy Registration is required in advance for all trainings. Participants will receive access information and course materials (if applicable) prior to the training date. Cancellations & Transfers Cancellations made at least 7 days before the training date may be transferred to another available training or converted to a training credit. Because seating is limited and course materials are prepared in advance, refunds are not available for cancellations made fewer than 7 days before the training. Attendance & CE Credit Participants must attend the full training and meet all continuing education requirements, including completion of any required evaluation, to receive CE credit and a certificate of completion. Technology Requirements Participants are responsible for having adequate internet access, audio capability, and a device capable of participating in Zoom-based training. Course Changes Trey Trotter, LMFT reserves the right to reschedule or cancel a training due to low enrollment, illness, technology failure, or circumstances beyond reasonable control. If a training is canceled by the provider, participants will receive a full refund or transfer option.
